‘Uthmaan Bin ‘Affaan: The Martyred Companion

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

This blog was set up to display the true image of ‘Uthmaan bin ‘Affaan – radiallaahu ‘anh – and will be continusly updated inshaa’Allaah.  It is, indeed, disappointing and sad to see many baseless and untrue narrations that are widespread amongst Ahlus-Sunnah, much of which are in reality borrowed from the Shee‘ah and their ilk, which disparage the true character of this noble and lofty Companion – may Allaah be pleased with him.

This blog will, bi‘ithnillaahi ta’aalaa, consist of authentic narrations from ar-Rasool – sallallaahu ‘alayhi wassallam – and the Sahaabah – radiallaahu anhum – concerning ‘Uthmaan. The narrations will give authentic information about his early days in Islaam, to those days he spent with the Messenger of Allaah – sallallaahu ‘alayhi wassallam – in Madeenah, to his days in the Khilaafah of Aboo Bakr, and his role in the Khilaafah of ‘Umar bin al-Khattaab, through to his own Khilaafah and the issues that arose therein, ending with his abhorrent and brutal murder and the consequences thereof – may Allaah curse those who murdered him, and those who were pleased with his murder until the Day of Judgement. So, I hope that this blog with the help of Allaah, will clear up any misconceptions that people have about this noble Companion, especially the disparity with respect to his Khilaafah wherein the doubts are raised within certain peoples minds concerning him.

By Allaah! If one was to read the authentic and clear narrations about the fitnah surrounding the latter years of his Khilaafah and how he dealt with the general people and in specific those thugs and hooligans who were stubbornly obsessed in causing havoc and disruption. One would find that it seemed as if ‘Uthmaan was standing trembling with fear before Allaah as if the Day of Judgement had struck, having to account for his actions, infront of him are those who opposed him trying their utmost to present their excuses as to why they did what they did, and it seems as if he was, by his actions and how he dealt with them, cutting off any excuse they could present in front of Allaah on the Day of Judgement to be used against him and any excuse to justify their evil actions. His patience against them was truly amazing. And that is why Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah said about him that one of his greatest virtues and cause of much love and affection towards him in the hearts of the Muslims is his patience in how he dealt with the mischief makers. He was a man living for the Aakhirah, a man who was concerned about his standing before Allaah. He did not allow them to gain any excuse to use against him infront of Allaah. May Allaah have mercy on ‘Uthmaan bin ‘Affaan, we love him and we defend him, and we curse those who curse him. In the words of Ibn ‘Abbaas, “May Allaah punish those who curse him with the curse of those who curse until the Day of Judgement.”  [al-'Aqeedah fee Ahlil-Bayt: 234]
